Today marks a significant moment for aspiring participants of the 2027 TCS London Marathon, as the results of the ballot are being dispatched. Runners from across the nation are keenly checking their emails to discover whether they have secured a spot in what is anticipated to be a landmark event. Scheduled for the weekend of 24-25 April, the 2027 marathon will feature an unprecedented 100,000 runners, who will take to the streets over these two days. Each individual who entered the ballot was automatically included in a random draw for both days, with 45,000 participants set to run on Saturday and 55,000 on Sunday.
Successful entrants will receive details regarding their allocated day, allowing them to begin preparations for the iconic route that stretches from Greenwich to Westminster. However, those who have yet to receive their ballot result email need not fret; notifications are being sent throughout the day (Thursday, 9 July). It is advisable to also check junk and spam folders, as the email may have been inadvertently filtered. The correspondence will originate from no-reply@marketing.londonmarathonevents.co.uk. If no email is received by 9am BST on Friday (10 July), participants are encouraged to reach out directly for assistance.
A Historic Double Marathon Experience
Hugh Brasher, CEO of London Marathon Events, expressed excitement about the upcoming event, stating, “The 2027 Double TCS London Marathon will be a weekend of celebration unlike any other in history. This is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for 100,000 individuals to participate across two days, with 45,000 running on Saturday and 55,000 on Sunday.” He acknowledged the immense anticipation surrounding the ballot results and remarked that for those fortunate enough to be selected, their thrilling journey towards the marathon commences now.
In a notable change for this edition, successful ballot entrants will be assigned to either the Saturday or Sunday of the marathon. Traditionally held on a Sunday, participants assigned to Saturday who wish to decline their place may do so by simply refraining from payment. However, this decision will result in the forfeiture of their spot, as there is no option to switch to the Sunday event. While the marathon route will remain unchanged for both days, the timings will differ. Saturday entrants must complete the race within 7 hours and 45 minutes, with a finish line cut-off at 5:30pm to facilitate road re-openings. Conversely, Sunday participants will have until 11:59pm to complete the course.
Eligibility and Special Considerations
Entrants assigned a Saturday spot who doubt their ability to finish within the specified time are advised not to proceed with payment. Instead, they should contact the official Customer Engagement Team, providing their name, address, and booking reference number. Unfortunately, participants will not have the option to swap days or alter their assigned day if they are partnered with a friend who has been allocated a different day. However, those unable to run on Saturday due to religious obligations are encouraged to reach out to the Customer Engagement Team to discuss their situation.
For those who were not successful in securing a place through the ballot, opportunities still remain. Brasher highlighted that individuals can apply for charity places to participate in the TCS London Marathon. This year, charity entries will uniquely include the option to run on Saturday. He expressed enthusiasm about offering this opportunity, stating, “We can’t wait to welcome 100,000 people to the streets of London next spring.” A list of participating charities seeking runners for both days can be accessed online, including the National Autistic Society, which has been designated as the official charity partner for the 2027 marathon.
Charitable Contributions and Community Impact
The marathon’s 2026 charity of the year, Marie Curie, announced that it raised over £2.3 million, a significant increase from the £450,000 total raised in 2025. This remarkable achievement surpassed the charity’s fundraising goal of £2 million, thanks to the efforts of 744 runners and the generosity of supporters. Over 300 volunteers provided support for Team Marie Curie across six cheer stations along the marathon route on 26 April.
Marie Curie is dedicated to delivering expert end-of-life care to individuals facing terminal illnesses and offers vital support services for their families and friends through hospices, hospitals, GP practices, community services, and a free national support line at 0800 090 2309. The £2.3 million raised equates to 100,000 hours of nursing care, or enough funding to sustain the support line for more than six years. Chief Executive Matthew Reed described the recognition as charity of the year as “a huge honour” and expressed gratitude to all runners and supporters for their contributions. He emphasised, “Every three minutes, someone dies without proper support, which amounts to nearly 200,000 individuals each year. The funds raised will significantly impact our mission to ensure that more people nearing the end of life, along with their loved ones, receive the essential care and support they need.”
