Luxury Car Hire Company Shut Down Following Customer Complaints

A luxury car hire firm, Classic Parade Ltd, has been dissolved after it took substantial upfront payments from customers for supercar rentals but repeatedly failed to deliver the promised vehicles or issue refunds. The company, which claimed to operate from a Knightsbridge office, was reported to have processed over £1.4 million through its bank accounts without sufficient explanation.

Investigations conducted by the Insolvency Service revealed a troubling pattern of cancellations occurring shortly before the scheduled hire dates. Customers, many of whom were booking for significant personal events, such as weddings and special gifts for terminally ill relatives, were left frustrated and financially out of pocket. Despite numerous assurances of refunds, none were forthcoming.

Complaints against the firm included at least 48 reports to Action Fraud, with total alleged losses amounting to £220,675. One particularly heart-wrenching account involved a customer who had arranged to hire a Mercedes G63 AMG for his wedding day, only to have the booking abruptly cancelled.

Financial Misconduct and Lack of Transparency

Further scrutiny of Classic Parade Ltd’s financial activities uncovered extravagant personal spending by its director at high-end retailers such as Harrods, Gucci, and Prada. The director’s failure to clarify these transactions raised serious questions about the company’s operations. Classic Parade Ltd was officially wound up by the High Court in London on 14 July.

Joanna Caswell, Chief Investigator at the Insolvency Service, stated, “Classic Parade Ltd presented itself as a prestigious supercar hire business, but our investigation found a very different picture. Customers who had saved for special occasions were left out of pocket and without the experience they had paid for.” She added that the winding-up of this company should serve as a cautionary tale for businesses that lack basic honesty and transparency.

Incorporated in March 2023, Classic Parade Ltd advertised itself as the UK’s “number one chauffeuring and supercar hire service,” boasting 20 years of service. However, investigators identified at least 14 customers who had paid hire fees and deposits for services which were ultimately not delivered. The company consistently cited various excuses for cancellations, including mechanical faults and insurance issues.

Legal Actions and Customer Harassment

Between September 2023 and October 2024, the company faced twelve County Court Judgments, totalling £66,225, as customers sought to recover their funds. Evidence also surfaced indicating that the firm had adopted aggressive tactics towards customers who posted negative reviews, including threats of legal action. In one instance, the director warned a customer that he would publish damaging reviews about their own business unless the negative feedback was retracted.

Despite the significant funds flowing through its accounts, Classic Parade Ltd’s director failed to provide any documentation to clarify these transactions or to cooperate with the Insolvency Service during investigations. Some customers were even instructed to make payments to third-party accounts, including one under the name ‘Classic Parade Competitions’, and in some cases directly into the director’s personal account. A total of £166,893 was paid to the director personally, alongside £121,847 to an individual believed to be his partner, and £28,154 on personal purchases.

Closure and Future Implications

No evidence was presented to demonstrate that any of these expenditures were related to business activities. Furthermore, the company failed to submit any accounts or confirmation statements to Companies House, and its registered Knightsbridge address was merely a virtual office it had vacated two years prior to the investigation.
