Leeds Freight Firm Closes Doors Amidst Unpaid International Debts

Malcolm Wright Associates Limited has been dissolved in the public interest following a thorough investigation by the Insolvency Service. The firm, based in Leeds, left several overseas freight businesses burdened with unpaid debts exceeding $508,000 (US), €334,000, and £25,000. The High Court in Manchester sanctioned the winding up of the company on 11 August 2026.

Investigation Uncovers Extensive Financial Irregularities

The closure of Malcolm Wright Associates Limited comes after an investigation revealed alarming financial discrepancies. Concerns regarding the company’s trading practices had been raised, leading to scrutiny over its dealings with various international freight operators. Evidence gathered during the investigation indicated that the business had misrepresented its credibility to secure contracts, notably by claiming membership in the reputable JCTrans network.

Between August and October 2024, Malcolm Wright Associates Limited accrued significant freight costs from at least 16 members of the JCTrans network but failed to settle these debts, resulting in substantial financial losses for its suppliers.

Failure to Comply and Lack of Accountability

The company’s lack of cooperation with the investigation further compounded the situation. It was found that there was no current director or individual in a position of significant control, and it had neglected to file its most recent accounts or confirmation statement. This absence of transparency raised serious red flags regarding the company’s operations.

David Hope, Chief Investigator at the Insolvency Service, commented on the case, stating, “Malcolm Wright Associates Limited presented itself as a credible trading entity while leaving its suppliers, including those based in the United States and Europe, with considerable unpaid debts. The company’s failure to engage with our investigation and its inability to be located at its registered office only served to exacerbate the situation.”

Hope emphasised the importance of taking decisive action against companies that appear to mislead suppliers, evade debts, or operate without the requisite transparency. He noted that winding up this company not only safeguards the interests of the public but also helps to prevent further harm to legitimate businesses.

Malcolm Wright Associates Limited was incorporated on 15 December 2016, under company number 10528398, with its registered office listed as Nortech Centre, Nortech Close, Leeds LS7 1AQ. Following the dissolution, the Official Receiver has been appointed as the liquidator for the company.
