Dr Jade Leung Takes on Key Roles as Vice-Chair of AI Security Institute and Security Advisor for AI Taskforce

Dr Jade Leung is set to assume the role of Vice-Chair at the AI Security Institute (AISI) and will also serve as Security Advisor to the AI Taskforce, reaffirming her commitment to bolstering the United Kingdom’s position in AI safety and security.

As part of this transition, Dr Leung will conclude her full-time commitments as the Prime Minister’s Adviser on AI and Chief Technology Officer of the AI Security Institute by the end of September, citing personal circumstances as the reason for her shift.

In her capacity as the Prime Minister’s Adviser on AI, Dr Leung has been instrumental in shaping the government’s strategy towards advanced artificial intelligence. Her efforts have spanned various sectors, including public safety, national security, and economic development. Moreover, she has been pivotal in the establishment of the AI Security Institute, where she significantly contributed to building its technical research capabilities and comprehensive programme of initiatives.

Dr Leung’s Continued Influence in AI Safety and Security

In her forthcoming roles, Dr Leung will maintain her focus on providing strategic insights regarding AI safety and security, aiding the government’s endeavours to navigate the myriad opportunities and challenges that advanced AI technologies present.

In addition to her Vice-Chair position at the AI Security Institute and her advisory role to the AI Taskforce, Dr Leung will embark on a part-time appointment as a Distinguished Visiting Fellow at Stanford University’s Hoover Institution.

The government will announce a replacement for the Prime Minister’s Adviser on AI in due course.

Jade has brought immense knowledge and skill to her roles in government, building the AI Security Institute into the world-leading institution it is today, securing a landmark AI deal between the UK and Ukraine and establishing AI Growth Zones across the UK.”

He further expressed his satisfaction that Dr Leung will still lend her expertise as Vice-Chair of the AI Security Institute and Security Advisor to the AI Taskforce, noting that her experience in AI safety and security will continue to be an invaluable resource as the UK fortifies its leadership in this critical domain.
