The application for a new Solar Farm in Nottinghamshire is set to generate approximately 450MW of solar energy, alongside an additional 150MW from a Battery Energy Storage System (BESS). This ambitious project aims to enhance renewable energy capacity in the region.
Application Submission and Examination Process
Steeple Solar Farm Limited submitted the application to the Planning Inspectorate on 14 May 2025, which was subsequently accepted for examination on 11 June 2025. The examination process provided an opportunity for the public, statutory consultees, and other interested parties to present their views and evidence to the Examining Authority.
Following a thorough examination period, which lasted six months, recommendations were made to the Secretary of State on 10 July 2026. This project marks the 115th energy application reviewed out of a total of 183 submissions examined thus far, showcasing the Planning Inspectorate’s commitment to adhering to the statutory timescales set out in the Planning Act 2008.
Community Engagement and Local Involvement
Local communities have been actively involved in the examination process, ensuring that their voices are heard regarding projects that may impact them. Residents, local authorities, and various interested parties participated in the comprehensive six-month examination, reflecting a commitment to community engagement.
The Examining Authority thoroughly considered all local perspectives and the evidence presented during the examination before finalising its recommendations to the Secretary of State. This process underscores the importance of local input in the development of significant energy projects.
Public Access to Information
Details regarding the decision, the recommendations made by the Examining Authority, and the evidence considered throughout the examination are publicly accessible on the project pages of the National Infrastructure Planning website. This transparency allows for greater public understanding of the decision-making process surrounding energy developments.
The final decision was rendered by Baroness Curran, acting on behalf of the Energy Secretary’s legal authority, reflecting the rigorous oversight involved in such substantial energy initiatives.
