CNC Engages with Veterans at the UK’s Premier Careers Fair

Representatives from the Civil Nuclear Constabulary (CNC) took part in the Veteran UK EXPO held in Manchester, engaging with service leavers and veterans to present career opportunities aimed at safeguarding the UK’s civil nuclear sector.

As part of a diverse group of over 100 exhibitors at Manchester Central, CNC officers had the chance to converse directly with members of the Armed Forces community regarding roles as Authorised Firearms Officers (AFO) following their military service.

Connecting with Service Leavers and Veterans

The Veteran UK EXPO stands as the largest careers fair in the UK specifically tailored for service leavers and veterans. This year’s event in Manchester attracted approximately 1,650 attendees, offering employers a unique platform to engage with individuals transitioning from military to civilian employment.

During the event, Sergeant Darren Adams, Chair of the Civil Nuclear Police Federation, along with PCs Mark O’Neill and Rob Jones, shared their insights and experiences in policing within the CNC. They elaborated on how the leadership, decision-making, and operational skills honed in the Armed Forces are highly relevant and transferable to a career in policing. Attendees were encouraged to ask questions about various aspects, including training, remuneration, benefits, career advancement, and the recruitment process.

Exploring Specialist Roles in Policing

The officers also drew attention to the variety of specialised roles available within the CNC, which includes positions such as the Strategic Escort Group (SEG), Police Medic, Dog Handler, and Firearms Instructor. These roles not only require specific skills but also offer exciting career pathways for individuals looking to make a significant impact in a critical area of national security.
