The United Kingdom and the Republic of Türkiye have today formalised a new Security and Defence Partnership during the NATO Summit held in Ankara, representing a significant advancement in their robust strategic alliance.
Strengthening Strategic Alliances
This Partnership embodies the shared resolve of both nations, as prominent European NATO Allies, to enhance and institutionalise their collaboration in response to the ever-evolving security landscape of the Euro-Atlantic region.
Through this agreement, the UK and Türkiye aim to bolster their co-operation by establishing new mechanisms for in-depth consultations on the politico-military dimensions of security and defence policy. Key areas of focus will include deterrence and defence strategies, military collaboration, advancements in defence technology, cyber security, hybrid threats, counter-terrorism efforts, resilience, civil preparedness, and space security.
Unique Contributions to Euro-Atlantic Security
The contributions of the UK and Türkiye to Euro-Atlantic security are both unique and indispensable. Grounded in the principles of Allied solidarity and shared responsibility, both countries reaffirm their commitment to taking on greater responsibility in fostering a more robust Europe within a stronger NATO framework. This involves increasing defence expenditures and enhancing collaboration on the necessary capabilities required by the Alliance, all while maintaining strong transatlantic ties.
