Revolutionary Digital Platform Streamlines Safety Data Reporting for the Animal Medicines Sector

A new digital platform aimed at Marketing Authorisation Holders (MAHs) for animal medicines has been launched, enabling them to submit pharmacovigilance reports directly to the Veterinary Medicines Directorate (VMD). This service officially commenced on 10 July 2026.

This development follows the introduction of the Adverse Event Reporting Service, which became available to animal owners, veterinary professionals, and Suitably Qualified Persons on 20 May 2026. Together, these initiatives represent a significant step forward in animal medicine safety reporting.

Comprehensive Reporting Made Easy

The VMD Industry Pharmacovigilance Reporting Service consolidates various types of submissions into a single, streamlined platform. This includes Benefit-Risk Submission Reports, Pharmacovigilance Sales Submissions, dose factor justifications, signal notifications, and XML reports. This integrated approach aims to simplify the reporting process for MAHs.

Designed with user experience in mind, the service enhances compliance with legislative requirements and provides a more efficient alternative to previous reporting methods. Noteworthy features include the ability to track submission status, generate exportable logs, and utilise in-system validation. Additionally, users can submit digital forms for Benefit-Risk Submission Reports and signal notifications, supported by a built-in product dictionary for easy navigation and selection of relevant product information.

Invitation for Feedback and Continuous Improvement

The new service is being launched as an optional beta version, and MAHs are strongly encouraged to utilise the feedback function within the platform to share their insights and experiences. The VMD is committed to using this feedback to enhance the service further, with additional functionalities already in the pipeline for implementation throughout the coming year.

For those MAHs who prefer to continue submitting reports via the VMD’s secure messaging service, this option remains available.
