New Budget Aims to Distribute Power and Wealth Across Every Postcode in Britain

In a video message released this afternoon, John Healey MP, the Chancellor of the Exchequer, outlined the government’s commitment to revitalising communities across the nation. He stated, “This government is working swiftly to restore hope and support Britain’s communities.”

Healey highlighted the strides made in the last fortnight, announcing initiatives aimed at stimulating economic growth in every corner of the country. He remarked, “We have supported British jobs, cultivated British skills, and bolstered British businesses.” Furthermore, he emphasised the importance of providing a measure of relief to families and enterprises under financial strain, noting, “We have offered a bit of breathing space for those who feel pressured and devoid of hope.”

Budget Announcement Date Confirmed

The Chancellor took the opportunity to confirm that his inaugural Budget will take place on Wednesday, 28th October. He expressed that this upcoming Budget will focus on decentralising financial resources and authority, ensuring that funds reach every postcode across Britain.

He assured that the Budget would be underpinned by principles of fiscal discipline, adhering to established fiscal rules. “This will provide both businesses and families with the stability they require to effectively plan for the future,” he added, reinforcing the government’s intent to foster a secure economic environment.

Engaging with the Public on Budget Matters

In an effort to involve the public in the Budget process, HM Treasury has introduced the Budget Representation Portal. This platform allows individuals to submit feedback on existing policies for consideration in the upcoming Budget. The portal will remain open until 23:59 on Wednesday, 9th September, after which the submissions will be compiled and shared with HM Treasury policy officials.

Healey concluded his message with a call to action, stating, “Now, let’s get on with the job,” signalling his readiness to advance the government’s agenda and address the pressing needs of the nation.
