Milder Temperatures Ahead, But Expect Wet and Windy Conditions Next Week

In the coming days, southern England is set to experience a rise in temperatures, with peaks of around 27-28°C expected in parts of the southeast on Friday. This warm spell, however, is likely to be short-lived as indications of increasingly wet and windy conditions emerge for the following week.

Dry Conditions Before the Change

Thursday is anticipated to be predominantly dry across much of England and Wales, with temperatures reaching the low 20s Celsius. However, those situated in the northwest, particularly in western Scotland and Northern Ireland, should prepare for a cold front that will bring rain by Thursday afternoon. This change will herald a shift towards more typical autumnal weather as the weekend approaches.

Dan Holley, Deputy Chief Forecaster at the Met Office, remarked, “Once early fog patches clear in the south, Friday will be exceptionally warm for late September, especially in the southeast, where we are influenced by a high-pressure system over the nearby continent.” He added that a weakening cold front will gradually move southeast overnight into Saturday, resulting in temperatures returning to more average levels throughout the weekend. As a result, Saturday is expected to be largely fine and dry, while Sunday may bring an increased likelihood of rain or showers, particularly in the western regions.

As we look ahead to next week, there are growing indications of a spell of wet and windy weather arriving on Tuesday and extending into Wednesday. Coastal regions in the west and southwest may particularly feel the effects of this system.

Dan Holley continued, “While specifics remain uncertain at this stage, we are monitoring a notably deep area of low pressure that could approach the UK during the early part of next week. This may result in wet and windy conditions for some areas, and combined with high spring tides, could impact certain coastal locations in the west.”
