The London Sports Festival, orchestrated by the Central London Alliance, has commenced with great enthusiasm, showcasing its latest initiative: a pop-up 3×3 basketball court at Paternoster Square. This vibrant venue attracted hundreds of participants and spectators on its opening day, in collaboration with Basketball England.
Celebrating the King’s Baton Relay
On 26th May 2026, the Team England segment of the prestigious King’s Baton Relay arrived at the historic St Paul’s Cathedral. The iconic steps were ascended by Jamell Anderson, accompanied by fellow athletes from Team England. A ceremonial procession of pikemen welcomed the Baton into the City of London, marking a significant moment in the festivities. Following this, the Baton was escorted to the newly established 3×3 basketball court, a key feature of the London Sports Festival.
A Day of Free Activities
The basketball court opened its doors to the public, offering a full day of complimentary activities. Participants had the opportunity to engage in various events, including Corporate Challenges and wheelchair 3×3 basketball matches. This initiative not only promotes the spirit of sportsmanship but also aims to foster inclusivity and community engagement.
This event is brought to fruition through a collaboration between the Central London Alliance and Blue Orchid Hospitality, with additional support from the City of London Corporation, Book It Please, and Paternoster Square. The collective efforts underline a commitment to enhancing the sporting landscape in London and encouraging participation from all corners of the community.
