Firefighters have successfully contained a blaze at a shop with residential flats above in Sydenham following an extensive emergency response operation. A total of ten fire engines and approximately 70 firefighters were deployed to the mid-terraced property on Newlands Park after the London Fire Brigade Control Officers received the initial of 17 emergency calls at 2.10pm.
Rapid Response to a Major Incident
At the peak of the incident, flames engulfed half of the first floor, prompting a swift and coordinated response from multiple fire stations, including Beckenham, Woodside, and Lewisham. Crews worked diligently to bring the fire under control, ultimately achieving this by 4.41pm. The emergency response showcased the effectiveness of the brigade’s operational capabilities in dealing with significant fire incidents.

As the situation stabilises, the cause of the fire is now the focus of an ongoing investigation. Fire safety officials will conduct a thorough examination to determine the circumstances that led to the outbreak, ensuring that any potential hazards are addressed to prevent future occurrences.
