Last Chance to Share Your Memories for the Queen Elizabeth Digital Memorial

Sir Richard Branson has today reflected on his memories of the late Queen Elizabeth II, coinciding with the impending deadline for public contributions to a commemorative initiative.

Commemorating a Remarkable Life

The initiative, which was launched on 21 April 2026, coincides with various memorial plans aimed at honouring the centenary of the Queen’s birth. A myriad of individuals, including notable public figures, have already shared their personal anecdotes and experiences related to Queen Elizabeth II.

The Cabinet Office is now urging the public to submit their memories before the submission portal closes on 31 October. Whether you have performed for the Queen as part of a choir, encountered her during a local walkabout, or celebrated one of her jubilees with your community, your stories are welcome and encouraged.

Creating a Digital Legacy

The Queen Elizabeth Digital Memorial serves as an interactive hub that collates public memories, archival materials from various international collections, and the first comprehensive official record of the Queen’s remarkable 70-year reign. This platform aims to chronicle pivotal events throughout her life, both geographically and chronologically.

Following the closure of public submissions, the website will continue to honour the legacy of Queen Elizabeth II. The Digital Memorial is set to collaborate with new archives and partners worldwide in the coming years, further enriching the repository with newly digitised content to create a more profound and extensive record of the Queen’s life and reign.

Future Endeavours in Commemoration

The Digital Memorial is one of three key recommendations put forward by the Queen Elizabeth Memorial Committee and subsequently endorsed by Her Majesty’s Government. These recommendations also include a masterplan for a permanent memorial in St James’s Park, London, as well as the establishment of The Queen Elizabeth Trust, a charitable organisation dedicated to revitalising community assets across the United Kingdom.
