The recent jobs fair took place at Notts County Football Club, showcasing a wealth of opportunities for young people from nearly 65 of the UK’s largest companies, including prominent names such as Amazon, Boots, and PureGym.
With over 600 vacancies available, the event served as a vital connection point between employers and young job seekers, highlighting available roles, apprenticeships, and training opportunities within the region.
Government Initiative to Enhance Youth Employment
This jobs fair is an integral part of the Government’s broader strategy to support youth employment, underpinned by a substantial investment of £2.5 billion aimed at helping young individuals carve out a solid career pathway.
Hundreds of attendees gathered for Nottingham’s inaugural Youth Guarantee Jobs Fair to explore a variety of job prospects, apprenticeships, training, and work experience with some of the UK’s largest employers. The Youth Guarantee initiative is designed to ensure that every young person has the chance to either earn or learn, with jobs fairs playing a crucial role in this endeavour by being held nationwide.
At the Meadow Lane Stadium, businesses from diverse sectors, including retail, manufacturing, hospitality, and healthcare, participated in the event. Notable organisations present included Amazon, Boots, East Midlands Railways, and Nottinghamshire Healthcare Foundation Trust.
Empowering Young Job Seekers
Approximately 770 young people attended the event, many of whom received practical guidance on job hunting, application processes, and interview preparation, equipping them with the confidence and skills necessary to embark on their employment journey.
Minister for Employment Andrew Western remarked on the significance of these fairs, stating that they provide an essential platform for young individuals to connect with employers who have live vacancies, often securing interviews on the spot. He emphasised the importance of delivering Youth Guarantee Jobs Fairs throughout the country to support young people in achieving their career aspirations.
Workshops were also conducted to maximise the benefits of these opportunities, including a session led by Google that educated job seekers on utilising artificial intelligence to enhance their CVs, prepare for interviews, and plan their career trajectories.
Success Stories from Previous Events
Previous Youth Guarantee Jobs Fairs held in locations such as Blackpool, Glasgow, Cardiff, London, and Leeds have successfully facilitated the transition of over 1,000 young individuals into jobs, work placements, or training opportunities.
The event in Nottingham reaffirmed the Government’s pledge that all individuals under the age of 25 should be presented with one of several high-quality pathways, including:
- Employment
- Continued education
- An apprenticeship
- A traineeship, work experience placement, or Sector-Based Work Academy Programme (SWAP)
Wider Vision for Youth Employment Support
The Nottingham Jobs Fair exemplifies the Government’s ongoing efforts to facilitate access to employment or training for young people. The comprehensive youth employment support package aims to assist nearly one million young individuals and create 500,000 new opportunities.
Plans are in place to conduct at least one Youth Guarantee Jobs Fair in every region across Great Britain, ensuring that young people have direct access to opportunities within their localities.
