Harrods Unveils Exciting Plans for West London Street Makeover – Discover the First Images!

Shoppers have been presented with an initial insight into the proposed transformation of a prominent road in Knightsbridge, which is home to the renowned Harrods department store. Hans Crescent, located just off Brompton Road, serves as a vital retail and hospitality hub, functioning as the principal access point for Knightsbridge Tube Station.

Enhancements to Public Spaces

The planned improvements include the introduction of six new seating areas, contemporary lampposts, and designated zones for temporary art displays. Additionally, the initiative will see the incorporation of new greenery, comprising three newly planted trees and approximately 80 square metres of landscaped areas. This revitalisation effort is a collaborative project between The Knightsbridge Estate and Harrods, with completion anticipated by autumn 2026.

Michael Ward, the Managing Director of Harrods, expressed enthusiasm about the undertaking, stating: “Harrods is proud to be part of the revitalisation of Hans Crescent. The project transcends conventional urban enhancement; it aims to create an inclusive and welcoming communal space that enriches the shopping experience while placing a strong emphasis on sustainability.” He further noted that “from the climate-resilient planting to the accessible seating designed by Andy Sturgeon Design, every aspect reflects our commitment to the long-term stewardship of Knightsbridge.”

Broader Developments in Knightsbridge

The Knightsbridge Estate encompasses a significant retail area situated between Harrods and Harvey Nichols, featuring a variety of cafes, restaurants, and retail units. Notably, the redevelopment of a substantial section of the estate has already resulted in the creation of 33 luxury rental apartments alongside a rooftop dining establishment.

Councillor Josh Rendall, who serves as the Lead Member for Transport, Parks, and Clean Streets at Kensington and Chelsea Council, highlighted the importance of the project, stating: “Hans Crescent exemplifies the type of place-making that our residents, businesses, and visitors expect in Kensington and Chelsea; greener, cleaner, more welcoming, and more enjoyable for pedestrians.” He added that initiatives such as this bolster their “Amazing Spaces” ambition, aiming to enhance the public realm, reinforce local character, and transform the borough’s high streets and destinations into more inviting spaces.

The upcoming works will align with a series of enhancements already implemented by The Knightsbridge Estate, aimed at improving the experiences of both visitors and residents. These include the pedestrianisation of Basil Street and the introduction of a new step-free entrance to Knightsbridge Underground Station, further demonstrating the commitment to accessibility and community-focused development.
