The government has today announced significant reforms to the Empty Dwelling Management Orders (EDMOs), a move aimed at assisting local councils in bringing more long-term vacant homes back into use. Changes to Eligibility Criteria

EDMOs empower local councils to assume control over the management of long-term empty properties, allowing them to facilitate occupation for a maximum of seven years while the ownership remains with the original property owner. The latest reforms will shorten the time a property must be vacant before it qualifies for an EDMO, reducing the threshold from two years to just six months.
