Enhanced Assistance for Ukraine: Strengthening Solidarity and Support

The illegal invasion of Ukraine by Russia presents a significant challenge to the prosperity and security of the United Kingdom. The UK takes pride in being a foremost partner in offering essential support to Ukraine during this crisis.

Enhanced Financial Commitment to Ukraine

In a recent announcement, the Chancellor revealed that the UK will provide over £10 billion in additional financial assistance to Ukraine, reinforcing the country’s role as a key ally amidst ongoing unlawful Russian aggression. This financial package includes £7 billion designated for economic support over the next three years, which features:

  • Up to £5.5 billion in guarantees from the World Bank.
  • A £0.5 billion grant to the World Bank International Development Association’s crisis facility, which will help mobilise £1.5 billion in support for Ukraine.

This comprehensive assistance also encompasses £0.5 billion in extra military support aimed at bolstering Ukraine’s air defences this winter. With an additional £750 million already pledged through the UK’s Extraordinary Revenue Acceleration loan, the total military support extended by the UK to Ukraine for this year reaches £4.3 billion. Furthermore, the UK has committed to providing £3 billion in military assistance to Ukraine until at least the 2030-31 period, or for as long as necessary.

Increased Support for Military and Reconstruction

In addition to the aforementioned financial aid, the package includes a £3 billion enhancement in the capacity of UK Export Finance for Ukraine, with a focus on military assistance. This adjustment raises the total cover provided by UK Export Finance to £6.5 billion.

With the latest commitment, the UK’s overall financial support for Ukraine has now reached an impressive total of £35 billion, broken down as follows:

  • £16 billion allocated for military support, which includes a contribution of £2.26 billion from the Extraordinary Revenue Acceleration loan.
  • Up to £12.6 billion designated for non-military support, encompassing bilateral assistance and fiscal guarantees.
  • A £6.5 billion cover limit for export finance support, facilitated through UK Export Finance for reconstruction and defence initiatives.
