Digital Veteran Card Surpasses 23,000 Downloads as Ex Service Personnel Urged to Explore Its Advantages

As the nation prepares to pay tribute to those who have served on Remembrance Sunday, veterans are encouraged to explore the advantages of the digital Veteran Card. Since its inception in October 2025, over 23,000 digital cards have been downloaded, providing veterans with a convenient method to carry proof of their service on their mobile devices.

The digital Veteran Card facilitates access to discounts at various participating shops, restaurants, and attractions. Additionally, it aids veterans in verifying their status when registering with healthcare providers and obtaining relevant support services.

Recognising Service Beyond Remembrance Sunday

The Minister for Digital Government highlighted the significance of Remembrance Sunday, stating that it is a time for the nation to unite in honouring the bravery and sacrifices of the Armed Forces community. The minister emphasised the importance of recognising veterans not only on this occasion but throughout the year. The digital Veteran Card serves as a practical tool, enabling veterans to easily verify their service and benefit from various discounts.

With the number of digital Veteran Cards now exceeding 23,000, there is a desire for more veterans to be aware of the benefits the card offers, allowing them to carry proof of their service wherever they go.

Accessibility and Support for Veterans

Veterans Minister Calvin Bailey MP, a former Royal Air Force service member and a digital Veteran Card holder himself, expressed a commitment to simplifying access to support and entitlements for veterans. He encouraged all veterans to sign up for either the physical or digital version of the Veteran Card during this remembrance period, emphasising its role in facilitating access to specialised health services and discounts on everyday purchases.

To obtain a digital Veteran Card, veterans must first apply for a physical card. Once their application has been processed and the physical card has been dispatched, they can then apply for the digital version through the GOV.UK One Login app. It is important to note that the digital card is optional and veterans can continue to use their physical card if that is their preference. Discounts and acceptance may vary by organisation, so it is advisable for veterans to verify details prior to visiting establishments.

Veterans Share Their Experiences

Julie Kotecha, a British Army veteran, shared her experience in utilising the Veteran Card, noting that she often inquires about available discounts while shopping or accessing services. She has found the card to be beneficial and a conversation starter. Looking forward to the convenience of the digital version, she encouraged fellow veterans to obtain their card, inquire about discounts, and make the most of the benefits available to them. She also praised the support provided by the Veterans UK office.

Additional Information

Since its launch in October 2025, the digital Veteran Card has gained significant traction, with over 23,000 downloads. Veterans are reminded that the digital card is an optional complement to the physical card, which must be fully processed before applying for the digital variant. Discounts and acceptance will vary among different organisations, so veterans should ensure they check the specifics before visiting.

From historic sites to various services, the Digital Veteran Card offers veterans a straightforward means to access support and savings in recognition of their military service.
