Chief Constable Attends Moving Remembrance Ceremony to Honour the Fallen

Chief Constable Simon Chesterman recently joined senior police officers and colleagues at the UK Police Memorial to pay tribute to the brave officers and staff who have lost their lives in the line of duty. This Ceremony of Remembrance served to honour the courage, dedication, and ultimate sacrifice of those who have served others throughout their careers.

Commemorating the Fallen at the National Memorial Arboretum

Held at the National Memorial Arboretum in Staffordshire, the special ceremony commemorated the fifth anniversary of the dedication of the UK Police Memorial, which took place in 2021 and was officiated by HRH The King, then HRH The Prince of Wales. The event also recognised the 4,655 names inscribed in the UK Police Roll of Honour, acknowledging the officers who have lost their lives “on or in the line of duty.”

Among those remembered, two officers from the Civil Nuclear Constabulary are included in the Roll of Honour. PC Daryl Street tragically lost his life in 2021 due to a road traffic accident while returning home from duty, and PC Marcus Bennett passed away in 2025 from a sudden medical episode while on duty.

Honouring Sacrifice and Service

Inspector Ken Murray, the Operational Unit Commander of the Heysham Operational Policing Unit, represented the Constabulary and carried the flag standard of the Civil Nuclear Constabulary. Chief Constable Chesterman took a moment to lay a wreath at the UK Police Memorial, a poignant gesture of respect and remembrance.

In his address, Chief Constable Chesterman remarked, “Right across policing, men and women bravely serve to protect our communities and our way of life. For those we have lost, we will never forget the sacrifice they made and the service they gave. We stand shoulder to shoulder, with our colleagues and their families, to honour and remember them, now and forever.”
