Since assuming office, the Government has enacted more than 240 sanctions against Iran, in response to actions that jeopardise our citizens and national security. Our commitment to collaborating with the United States and other allies remains steadfast as we strive to apply economic pressure on Iran. The objective is clear: to prevent the Iranian regime from exploiting the global economy and misusing the UK financial system to further its nuclear ambitions and engage in broader destabilising activities.
Commitment to Diplomatic Solutions
We are fully supportive of the diplomatic initiatives undertaken by the United States to achieve a peaceful resolution to the ongoing tensions. The recent efforts to intensify pressure, particularly through the initiative known as Operation Economic Outcast, are welcomed. Our resolve to work closely with international partners to safeguard our interests is unwavering. We are prepared to take all necessary measures to ensure the safety of the Strait of Hormuz and to counteract Iran’s perilous activities in the region.
Call for Constructive Engagement
In light of these developments, we urge Iran to put an end to its destabilising actions throughout the region, particularly in the critical Strait of Hormuz. It is imperative that Iran engages in diplomatic discussions with sincerity and good faith. The path to stability and security in the region hinges on constructive dialogue, and it is our hope that Iran will choose this route over aggression.
