The upcoming weekend across much of the UK is set to be predominantly dry and settled, thanks to a developing area of high pressure. However, indications suggest that wetter weather is on the horizon as early as next week.
A Calm and Pleasant Weekend Ahead
As rain clears from the southeast on Friday, a high-pressure system will establish itself over the UK, ushering in a cooler and calmer atmosphere to kick off the weekend.
Saturday is anticipated to be largely dry for many, featuring sunny intervals and generally light to moderate winds. Temperatures are expected to hover around or just below the seasonal average. Nonetheless, there are exceptions, particularly along the eastern and southeastern coasts where some heavy showers may occur. Overnight temperatures are also predicted to drop, with a considerable risk of frost in northern regions.
On Sunday, much of the UK will continue to enjoy dry and settled conditions. However, there is a possibility of rain or showers developing more widely inland, particularly affecting parts of eastern and southeastern England during the day. While cloud cover may increase in the far north and northwest later on, with a chance of patchy rain, the majority of the country will remain dry.
Anticipating Changeable Weather Next Week
Looking towards the week ahead, there are signs that a more variable weather pattern may unfold as low-pressure systems begin to make their presence felt. Rain or showers are likely to impact parts of England and Wales on Monday and Tuesday, with southern regions currently forecasted to receive more rainfall. Despite this, many areas will still enjoy predominantly dry conditions, though uncertainty remains regarding the timing, intensity, and extent of the forthcoming rain.
Chris Bulmer, Chief Forecaster at the Met Office, noted: “Many will experience a pleasant window of dry and bright autumn weather this weekend, characterised by sunny spells and gentle breezes as high pressure prevails. However, as night falls, it may feel particularly chilly, especially in eastern and southeastern areas where heavy showers could materialise.”
He added, “There are indications that the influence of high pressure will begin to weaken through next week, paving the way for lower pressure and Atlantic weather systems to gain traction by the week’s end. This shift is likely to raise the likelihood of wet and windy spells affecting all regions.”
With some uncertainty surrounding the anticipated changes to the weather patterns in the coming week, further clarity is expected as the days progress.
