James Bourne, a prominent member of the band Busted, has recently provided a rare update regarding his ongoing health challenges, stating that he is “still not out of the woods yet.” The singer had previously alarmed fans with the announcement that he would be stepping away from the band’s tour with McFly, attributing his decision to health concerns. Though he has not elaborated on the specifics of his condition, Bourne has described it as a “long story” and revealed that he requires surgery to potentially extend his life.

He mentioned, “As I’m taking a break from the gram, I’ll be posting an update soon about what’s going on with my health in my Spotify bio. It’s a long story. Still not out of the woods yet. Thanks for your support and patience.” This message follows a previous statement where he disclosed his need for significant surgery aimed at improving his health and allowing him to return to the music scene.

In a heartfelt post on his Instagram Stories, he reflected on the time that has passed since his last update, saying, “I realised it’s been about six months since I posted last. I have a plan in place to have a major surgery that should extend my life and hopefully make me well enough to come back to what I love the most, which is touring and making music. It really sucks to be out of the game. But there is hope!”

Stepping Back from the Tour

James’s health issues took centre stage when he announced he would not be participating in the McFly Vs Busted tour last year due to his deteriorating condition. His decision was met with understanding from fans, as he prioritised his health. He conveyed his disappointment, stating, “The VS tour kicks off tomorrow night in Birmingham, and as excited as I’ve been all year for this tour to begin, I’m really sorry to say that over the last eight days it has become clear that I am not in good enough health to play these shows.”

He acknowledged the uncertainty surrounding his condition, adding, “There’s a lot of information I still don’t have about my condition, but my bandmates, management, and I are unanimous in deciding that I should focus on the medical stuff for now. I really hope I can be in a position to come back further down the line. It’s still going to be an amazing show and I will miss being there! See you all as soon as possible.”

In his absence, James’s younger brother Chris took to the stage to join the band, while his bandmates kept fans informed about his situation. During one performance, Matt Willis addressed the audience, saying, “Okay, you may have noticed our best friend is not here tonight. James Bourne is really f***ing sick and we love him and we miss him. This is the first show we’ve ever played without him and it’s really weird. But we’re gonna do the best we can.”
