British Soldiers to be Equipped with Spy Drones, Boosting Jobs in South West England and Wales

British soldiers are set to benefit from a significant investment of up to £400 million, aimed at enhancing their safety and operational effectiveness through the deployment of advanced surveillance technology. The new Tekever AR5 drones will provide the Army with state-of-the-art intelligence gathering capabilities, ensuring that troops are better protected and able to respond more effectively in the field.

Enhanced Surveillance Capabilities

The AR5 drones are designed to carry up to 50kg of surveillance equipment, including advanced cameras and sensors, allowing for superior monitoring and data collection. These drones boast longer flight durations than their predecessors, enabling commanders to receive real-time intelligence that is crucial for safeguarding personnel and informing strategic decisions during operations.

The initial procurement will include six AR5 drones, with a total of up to 24 expected to be delivered by 2029. This acquisition is part of a broader initiative to replace the ageing Watchkeeper drones, which have been in service since 2014 and are now nearing the end of their operational life.
