The beginning of the week in the UK is set to be predominantly settled, with conditions remaining dry and sunny. However, from Wednesday onwards, the forecast indicates a significant change as heavy showers and thunderstorms are expected to sweep across the country.

Mark Sidaway, Deputy Chief Forecaster at the Met Office, has highlighted the potential for significant rainfall as the week unfolds. “While many areas will enjoy dry and increasingly warm conditions at the start of the week, attention is turning to the potential for heavy rain and thunderstorms from Wednesday onwards,” he noted.

He further explained that some regions could experience between 20 to 30mm of rain in just a few hours, with the possibility of even higher totals where thunderstorms develop repeatedly in the same location. The exact areas that will receive the heaviest rainfall remain uncertain, so it is essential to stay informed with the latest forecasts this week.

Following a settled weekend, the arrival of low pressure is expected to introduce warmer, more humid air, along with an increased likelihood of rain and thunderstorms. This rain may become slow-moving, affecting some areas repeatedly and leading to substantial rainfall totals.

As Friday approaches, a slow-moving band of heavy rain is anticipated across the UK, coinciding with the development of an area of low pressure. This rainfall may be intense and could be accompanied by thunderstorms, further complicating the weather situation.
