Euan Hutton has announced his intention to step down as Chief Executive Officer of Sellafield Ltd in July 2027. He plans to embark on a non-executive career and dedicate more time to his family.
Reflecting on his time at Sellafield, Euan remarked, “I first walked through the gates of Sellafield in October 1991 and I could not have dreamed of the opportunities that this special place has given to me. To lead Sellafield has been the greatest honour and privilege of my professional life.” He emphasised the importance of the people at Sellafield, stating, “What we do is world leading, but it’s the people that make it happen. I have nothing but admiration and gratitude to each and every one of them that work so hard to deliver our shared mission.”
Looking ahead, Euan acknowledged that the time has come for him to transition to the next phase of his life. He expressed confidence that announcing his departure now would allow ample time to identify the best candidate for his successor, ensuring a smooth handover process.
Recognition from the Board and Executive Team
Chris Train, Chair of Sellafield Ltd, commended Euan’s extensive contributions to the organisation over the years, particularly highlighting his leadership during the past three years as CEO. “On behalf of the Board and Executive team, I would like to thank Euan for his dedication and commitment to our important work,” he stated. Train also expressed gratitude for the notice period Hutton has provided, which will facilitate a thorough search for his successor and maintain stability within the company.
David Peattie, Chief Executive Officer of the Nuclear Decommissioning Authority (NDA), echoed these sentiments, noting the significant impact Euan has had not only at Sellafield Ltd but across the entire NDA Group. He praised Hutton’s technical and leadership skills, wishing him well in his future endeavours and looking forward to continued collaboration in the months to come.

In light of Euan Hutton’s forthcoming departure, a formal search process will now commence to identify his successor.
