Commonwealth Gold Medal Winners Reunite on the Court That Sparked London’s Sporting Legacy

Central London Alliance has undertaken a remarkable initiative to transform Paternoster Square into a lively hub dedicated to sport, community engagement, and wellbeing, featuring a pop-up 3×3 basketball court. This innovative endeavour aims to showcase how public spaces can be creatively utilised to stimulate participation, enliven central London, and foster connections through the medium of sport.

Celebrating Sport at St Paul’s Cathedral

On 26th May 2026, the Team England segment of the King’s Baton Relay made a memorable stop at St Paul’s Cathedral. The baton was carried up the cathedral’s renowned steps by Jamell Anderson, accompanied by fellow athletes from Team England. This significant moment was marked by a ceremonial procession involving pikemen, who graciously welcomed the Baton into the City of London.

The Baton’s journey continued to a specially designated 3×3 basketball court, which formed part of the Central London Alliance’s London Sports Festival. This vibrant event opened its doors to the public, offering a day filled with complimentary activities, including Corporate Challenges and wheelchair 3×3 basketball, designed to engage and inspire participants of all abilities.

Collaboration for Community Engagement

This exciting occasion was made possible through the collaborative efforts of Central London Alliance, in partnership with Blue Orchid Hospitality, and received invaluable support from the City of London Corporation, Book It Please, and Paternoster Square. Together, these organisations have demonstrated a commitment to enhancing community interaction and promoting active lifestyles through sport.
