Stunning Images Capture Devastating Blaze at South London Flats as 125 Firefighters Battle Inferno

A significant fire broke out in South London on Saturday, 25th July, prompting a large-scale response from emergency services. Approximately 125 firefighters, supported by 20 fire engines, were dispatched to tackle the blaze that erupted around 3:10 PM in Belgravia Walk, Mitcham. The fire quickly spread across all three floors of the converted townhouses, ultimately reaching the roof spaces of the building.

Fortunately, there have been no reported injuries resulting from the incident. The London Fire Brigade received over 60 emergency calls alerting them to the fire and mobilised crews from Sutton, Wallington, Wandsworth, and other nearby fire stations to respond to the unfolding situation. By 5:52 PM, firefighters had managed to bring the inferno under control, but not before it caused significant damage.

Residents Displaced Following Devastating Fire

As a result of the fire, around 35 residents have been displaced from their homes. A local church has been designated as a rest centre to provide temporary accommodation for those affected. Investigations are currently underway to determine the cause of the fire, which has left many residents in a difficult situation.

Assistant Commissioner Pam Oparaocha of the London Fire Brigade stated that firefighters remained on-site throughout the evening, working diligently to tackle hot spots and damp down the building to prevent further flare-ups. She urged local residents to keep their doors and windows closed due to the potential presence of smoke in the area, and advised them to steer clear of the vicinity as crews continued their work.
