Crystal Palace Park Grand Reopening: Enjoy Free Hot Air Balloon Rides, Food Market Delights, and Museum Access Today!

Crystal Palace Park will fully reopen today, Saturday, 18th July, featuring an array of free, engaging activities to celebrate the completion of a 15-month regeneration project that has revitalised some of the site’s most cherished Victorian elements. Notable among the refurbished areas is the ‘Geological Court’, home to the Grade I-listed sculptures of prehistoric dinosaurs created by Benjamin Waterhouse Hawkins, which have graced the promenade since their relocation to the park in 1854 following the closure of the Great Exhibition.

Exciting New Additions to the Park

Visitors can also look forward to the unveiling of a new visitor centre, alongside a dinosaur-themed adventure playground designed for younger guests. A diverse food market offering culinary delights from around the globe will add to the festive atmosphere. Families and friends can partake in vintage lawn games, while stilt walkers, carnival dancers, and fire performers will provide entertainment, ensuring a delightful experience for all.

According to the park’s Trust, “The park will be filled with things to see and do, from performances and workshops to creative activities, music, food, and plenty of surprises along the way.” This weekend’s festivities will also feature tethered hot air balloon rides (available through a ballot, now closed), performances by the Pengenista drummers accompanied by carnival dancers, DIY dino art workshops, and a variety of creative masterclasses.

Enhanced Accessibility and Visitor Experience

The food market and bar will remain open throughout the weekend, and the Crystal Palace Museum will welcome guests from 10am to 4pm on both days. Visitors can take in the stunning dinosaur sculptures or enjoy a leisurely walk around the boating lake and the newly designed dinosaur playground. Improvements have also been made to public pathways and areas, including the beautiful Italian terraces, enhancing accessibility for all guests.
