Flood Warning Issued for Five London Postcodes Along River Thames – Complete List Inside

A flood alert has been announced for five postcodes in London, with experts predicting a potential flooding event on Thursday. The Environment Agency has issued a warning regarding the River Thames in west London, attributing the risk to high tidal levels. The agency anticipates that flooding may occur between 2:45am and 6:45am on Thursday, July 16.

Postcodes Under Threat

The five postcodes identified as being at risk are SW14, SW15, TW1, TW9, and W4. Despite the alert, officials have stated that they do not expect any properties to be affected by flooding. The warning, released on Wednesday, July 15, indicated: “High tides tomorrow morning may lead to flooding. Flooding is possible from 2:45am to 6:45am on July 16. The forecast high tide at Richmond is expected to reach 4.60 mAOD at 4:45am.”

Areas specifically highlighted for potential flooding include Putney Embankment (SW15), Chiswick Mall and Strand on the Green (W4), Thames Bank at Mortlake (SW14), Ranelagh Drive (TW1), Friars Lane and Water Lane (TW9), as well as Riverside and The Embankment at Twickenham, alongside the Towpath below Teddington Lock.

Advice for Commuters and Residents

The alert further advised commuters to steer clear of areas prone to flooding on Thursday. It noted: “Astronomical tide levels are rising. The river flow at Teddington Weir is currently at 10 cubic metres per second and remains steady. We expect these flows to remain consistent over the next few days. We are closely monitoring the situation.”

Residents are urged to exercise caution and avoid walking, cycling, or driving through any floodwaters. An accompanying map illustrates the flood warning zone, which predominantly follows the course of the River Thames, extending from Putney Bridge in zone 2 and meandering outwards to Teddington.
