162 UK Employers Honoured for Exceptional Support to the Armed Forces Community

Employers throughout the United Kingdom are actively assisting veterans in securing employment, supporting Reservists as they navigate dual military and civilian careers, and offering assistance to military families through inclusive workplace policies. This commitment has been formally acknowledged with the Defence Employer Recognition Scheme (ERS) Gold Award.

A total of 162 employers have been honoured with the Defence Employer Recognition Scheme (ERS) Gold Award, which represents the Ministry of Defence’s highest accolade for organisations that exhibit exceptional support for the armed forces community.

This year’s awardees encompass a diverse array of organisations, spanning various sizes and industries, including finance, manufacturing, healthcare, education, construction, transport, professional services, retail, emergency services, and local government. Collectively, they illustrate the increasing dedication of UK employers to recognising the invaluable skills, experience, and values that members of the Armed Forces community contribute to the workplace.

Celebrating Commitment to Armed Forces Support

Now entering its twelfth year, the ERS Gold Award continues to honour employers who surpass their obligations under the Armed Forces Covenant by implementing forces-friendly policies, advocating for defence, and cultivating inclusive workplaces where veterans, Reservists, military families, and Cadet Force Adult Volunteers can flourish.

Calvin Bailey MBE MP, Minister for Veterans and People, stated:

“For a veteran embarking on a new chapter, or a Reservist managing two demanding roles, having an employer who supports them can make a significant difference. These 162 organisations have made commendable efforts to ensure that veterans, Reservists, and military families feel genuinely welcomed and supported. I take immense pride in recognising their contributions today, and I hope their exemplary actions will inspire many more.”

Criteria for Gold Award Recipients

To attain Gold Award status, employers must fulfil several criteria, including:

• Providing a minimum of 10 days’ additional paid leave for Reservists each year.
• Implementing supportive HR policies for Reservists, service families, veterans, and Cadet Force Adult Volunteers.
• Actively promoting the Armed Forces Covenant while encouraging others to support defence initiatives.
• Demonstrating a long-term, proactive commitment that exceeds the baseline requirements of the scheme.

Holders of the Gold Award play a crucial role in motivating other organisations to enhance their support for the Armed Forces community. This, in turn, aids in the development of a more inclusive workforce while aligning with Defence’s people agenda and bolstering the nation’s resilience.
