UK Calls for Dialogue on US Resolution Draft at UN Security Council

Colleagues, following the unsuccessful adoption of both draft resolutions regarding Western Sahara this afternoon, the mandate of MINURSO is set to expire tomorrow.

In order to ensure the stability of Western Sahara, safeguard the security of the region, and address the needs of the populations affected by this ongoing conflict—including generations who have been born and lived in refugee camps—we strongly urge those who did not support the resolution proposed by the United States to strive for a solution based on that draft. This proposal received 11 affirmative votes and outlined a vision for a political process aimed at resolving the situation in Western Sahara.

This challenge is one that we must all collectively address.
