Two officers from the Royal Solomon Islands Police Force (RSIPF) embarked on a journey to the United Kingdom on Friday, 25th September 2026, to engage in the prestigious International Leadership Programme (ILP). This flagship initiative is administered by the UK College of Policing and aims to enhance leadership skills within law enforcement.
Empowering Police Leadership in the Pacific
The participants in this month-long programme are Aipo Kabwere, the RSIPF Director of Close Personal Protection, and Superintendent Wilken Miriki, the Provincial Police Commander for the Western Province. Their involvement in the ILP is part of the broader UK-supported Pacific Policing Leadership Programme (PPLP), which seeks to bolster police effectiveness across the Pacific region by nurturing ethical and forward-thinking leaders through various professional development avenues, leadership training, and international exchanges.
Solomon Islands stands out as a significant beneficiary of this initiative. So far, eight RSIPF officers, including the two currently travelling to the UK, have participated in the ILP. The programme also encompasses training for emerging leaders and plans for mid-level leadership development courses to be held in Honiara later this year.
Since the launch of the PPLP, nearly 400 police officers from across the Pacific have benefitted from its offerings, showcasing the programme’s extensive reach and positive impact.
Strengthening Regional Partnerships
Commenting on the initiative, Deputy British High Commissioner Cameron Millar stated, “The UK is dedicated to collaborating with Pacific Islands police forces to enhance policing throughout the region by fostering the development of future leaders. The International Leadership Programme provides senior police officers with a unique opportunity to cultivate their leadership capabilities while delving into the foundational principles of legitimacy, consent, ethics, and human rights that are essential for effective policing.”
The ongoing partnership between the UK and Solomon Islands underscores a mutual commitment to fostering a professional, accountable, and capable police service that plays a crucial role in ensuring regional security and stability. The participation of RSIPF officers in this programme is a testament to the robust and enduring collaboration between the two nations.
