CPS Introduces Dedicated Liaison Officers for Every Domestic Abuse Victim Across the UK

From today, the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) has announced the permanent implementation of its Universal Service for victims and its Enhanced Service for survivors of domestic abuse across all CPS Areas.

The Universal and Enhanced Services, which have been trialled in select regions since 2023, will now serve as the standard provisions for victims throughout England and Wales.

Commitment to Victims of Domestic Abuse

The Attorney General, Ellie Reeves KC MP, expressed her satisfaction with the national rollout of the Victim Transformation Programme, which includes an improved service specifically for victims of domestic abuse. This new enhanced service introduces the provision of a dedicated victim liaison officer for all domestic abuse survivors, ensuring they receive comprehensive support from the moment charges are filed through to the trial process.

In a significant shift, all victims will now have the option to choose their preferred method of communication with the CPS, whether that be via telephone, email, or traditional post. This initiative aims to foster a more personalised and responsive approach to victim support.

Enhancing Communication and Support

Moreover, victims can anticipate a more efficient and higher-quality standard of correspondence throughout the judicial process. The Attorney General emphasised her commitment to placing victims at the centre of the justice system, asserting, “When I say I want to put victims at the heart of the justice system, I mean it.”

This programme is a significant step forward in addressing the needs of victims and ensuring that their voices are heard and respected within the legal framework.
