Approval Granted for Morgan and Morecambe Offshore Wind Farms Transmission Assets Development

The project encompasses the transmission assets linked to both the Morgan Offshore Wind Project and the Morecambe Offshore Windfarm. The scope of the project includes offshore export cables, onshore landfall infrastructure, onshore export cables, onshore substations, onshore grid connection cables, circuit breaker compounds, and various other related onshore facilities.

Application Submission and Examination Process

The application for the project was lodged with the Planning Inspectorate by Morgan Offshore Wind Limited and Morecambe Offshore Windfarm Limited on 21 October 2024. It was subsequently accepted for examination on 18 November 2024.

Throughout the examination period, which lasted six months, the public, statutory consultees, and other interested parties were afforded the opportunity to present evidence to the Examining Authority. Following this thorough examination, recommendations were forwarded to the Secretary of State on 29 January 2026.

This marks the 113th energy application out of a total of 181 that have undergone examination, and it was completed by the Planning Inspectorate within the statutory timeframe established by the Planning Act 2008.

Community Engagement and Considerations

Local communities were actively involved in the examination process for projects that could impact them. Residents, local authorities, and other stakeholders were able to contribute their views during the six-month examination period.

The Examining Authority meticulously considered all local opinions and the evidence presented during the examination before arriving at its recommendation for the Secretary of State.
