Two Additional Suspects Arrested for Illegal Waste Dumping at Kidlington Location

Two men have been apprehended in connection with an ongoing investigation into the extensive illegal dumping of waste at a notorious site in Kidlington, as announced by the Environment Agency today, 8 September 2026.

The arrested individuals include a 21-year-old from Ashford in Surrey and a 43-year-old from Stanwell in Surrey. This recent development brings the total number of arrests in this case to six, following previous arrests made in February 2026, January 2026, and November 2025.

Investigation Led by National Environmental Crime Unit

The Environment Agency’s National Environmental Crime Unit is spearheading the investigation, aiming to identify those responsible for the illegal activities, hold them accountable, and ensure justice for the local community.

Colin Chiverton, Area Environment Manager for the Thames at the Environment Agency, expressed his concerns regarding the situation, stating, “The dumping at Kidlington was abhorrent and showed a complete disregard for the local community. We acted swiftly to remove all illegal waste from the site, and our teams are diligently pursuing this investigation. These arrests mark a crucial step in gathering new evidence and achieving justice for the residents of Kidlington.”

Environment Secretary Dame Angela Eagle echoed these sentiments, emphasising the government’s commitment to tackling waste crime. She remarked, “This government has pledged to confront waste criminals, and that is precisely what we are doing. These arrests represent another stride towards delivering justice for the residents of Kidlington, who have endured the blight of unsightly waste. The era of allowing waste crime to proliferate is over. We are taking decisive action through our crackdown and reinforcing our enforcement presence to restore pride in our communities.”

Conditional Bail and Ongoing Investigations

The suspects have been released on conditional bail while further investigations are conducted. This follows the initial report of waste being illegally dumped in Kidlington, which prompted an immediate response from the Environment Agency. Officers visited the site on 2 July 2025, and a subsequent inspection in July revealed no changes or additional waste, leading to the issuance of a cease-and-desist letter to prevent further dumping.

In light of ongoing criminal activities at the location, the Agency sought and obtained a court order in October 2025 to close the site. Since the order was granted on 23 October 2025, illegal tipping has ceased.

Significant Clean-Up Efforts and Future Initiatives

Recently, the Environment Agency announced the successful completion of a comprehensive clean-up operation at the site, with an impressive 22,105 tonnes of commercial and household waste—including tyres, shredded plastic, and general rubbish—removed.

In alignment with the Prime Minister’s initiative against waste crime, the government and the Environment Agency are collaborating to ensure that serious, organised criminal gangs have no refuge. The government has also pledged to address some of the most severe illegal waste sites across the country, including Bolton House Road in Wigan and Midland Road in Bradford, prioritising these efforts based on their scale, risk to local communities, environmental impact, and connections to ongoing non-compliance and organised crime.

Enhanced utilisation of drones, an expanded role for Mayors and police forces, an increase in Environment Agency personnel on the ground, and a substantial rise in fines are all strategies aimed at deterring and penalising illegal dumping. Furthermore, a newly established Waste Crime Crackdown Group, led by Environment Secretary Angela Eagle, will unite regulators and law enforcement to dismantle these criminal enterprises and ensure effective outcomes.
