NASA Ames Fire Department Enhances Aircraft Firefighting Skills with Advanced Training

Upcoming Fire Training at NASA Ames Research Center

The fire department at NASA’s Ames Research Center, located in California’s Silicon Valley, is set to conduct essential training exercises at the Moffett Federal Airfield from Tuesday, 8th September through Friday, 11th September. The sessions will take place daily between 8 a.m. and 8 p.m. PDT and will utilise a propane-fuelled aircraft fire simulator.

During these training drills, the simulator is designed to produce minimal smoke, ensuring that the exercises remain as controlled as possible. However, it is important for motorists travelling along U.S. Highway 101 to be aware that flames may be visible during the training activities. This initiative aims to enhance the preparedness of Ames’ first responders, equipping them to tackle a range of realistic aircraft firefighting scenarios.
