In July, HM Land Registry processed a total of 2,134,898 applications, an increase from 2,039,832 in June and 2,052,588 in the same month last year. Among the various types of applications, 402,753 were for updates to the register, a rise from 350,101 in June. Additionally, the number of applications for official copies of the register reached 1,167,651, compared to 1,128,364 the previous month.
The South East emerged as the leading region with 481,280 applications, reflecting a steady increase from previous months. Greater London followed with 381,481 applications, demonstrating its significant role in the property market. Other notable regions included the North West with 250,583 applications and the South West with 204,950.
Detailed Breakdown of Applications
The data reveals further distinctions in the types of applications received in July. The total number of search and hold queries, which are essential for official searches, slightly decreased to 228,378 from 230,202 in June. On the other hand, transactions for value saw an uptick, with 103,398 recorded compared to 95,818 in June. Additionally, postal applications from non-account holders remained relatively stable, with 21,802 compared to 21,813 in the previous month.
When examining the performance by region, the data indicates a notable increase in applications across most areas. The West Midlands, for instance, reported 185,716 applications, while Yorkshire and the Humber saw 173,793. Wales also exhibited a healthy increase, with 97,596 applications logged.
Local Authority and Customer Insights
In terms of local authority areas, Birmingham led the way in July with 32,924 applications, followed by the City of Westminster with 25,826. Leeds and North Yorkshire also featured prominently, with 24,479 and 23,841 applications, respectively. Buckinghamshire rounded out the top five with 22,437 applications.
On the customer front, Infotrack Limited emerged as the top customer with 238,612 applications, followed by Orbital Witness Limited at 50,542. Other significant contributors included HBOS Plc Bank with 43,848 applications, Enact with 39,755, and O’Neill Patient with 38,763.
