Having served as Mayor of Greater Manchester, I am well aware of the joy that live sporting events can infuse into a community. The atmosphere generated during such occasions is unmatched, and it has the potential to unite people in celebration and camaraderie.

Glaswegians are renowned for their warmth and hospitality, and I have no doubt they will extend this welcoming spirit to the athletes and fans arriving from 74 Commonwealth nations. The city’s rich culture and enthusiasm for sport will undoubtedly enhance the experience for everyone involved.
To the athletes representing all four home nations, I wish you the very best of luck. I will be following your performances closely. As an avid runner myself, I’m inspired by the incredible achievements in the sport, though I must admit I wouldn’t quite measure up to Josh Kerr’s impressive one-mile world record!
