Prince Louis has expressed a keen interest in becoming a ball boy, as suggested by the Princess of Wales during her visit to Wimbledon. On Saturday afternoon, Kate attended the championships to witness the ladies’ singles final featuring Czech players Karolina Muchova and Linda Noskova. Following the match, she was set to present the trophy to the victorious player.

At the Wimbledon grounds in South West London, the princess, who donned a vibrant strawberry red belted top paired with a pleated midi skirt, engaged in conversation with Jenna Fontanilla, a member of Wimbledon’s court services team. During their chat, Kate mentioned that her youngest son, eight-year-old Louis, had been inquiring about the responsibilities of a ball boy.

Engaging Conversations at Wimbledon

Ms Fontanilla, aged 18, recounted her interaction with Kate to the Press Association: “She shared how Louis was curious about how to become a ball boy, and we discussed the hard work involved in being on court and how we collaborate with the ball kids. It was truly delightful.” She described Kate as “so genuine,” adding that the princess’s presence helped her feel at ease during their exchange.

Reflecting on her initial apprehension, Ms Fontanilla remarked, “I thought I would be really nervous, but she made everything feel so effortless. The conversation flowed naturally.” She continued, “Seeing her through the doors was a moment of disbelief: ‘Oh my gosh, she’s here!’ Overhearing her with others felt so relaxed, which calmed my nerves. When she reached out to shake my hand, I was in a fluster, wondering which hand to use. But her warm smile made it all worthwhile.” She further noted, “The conversation was absolutely lovely. Everyone refers to her as the people’s princess, and I truly admire that.”

The Impact of the Wimbledon Junior Tennis Initiative

During their discussion, Ms Fontanilla shared with Kate how she secured her position at the championships through the Wimbledon Junior Tennis Initiative (WJTI). “They offer free tennis lessons to several schools in Merton, and I was fortunate enough to be selected when I was just four years old,” she explained. “The WJTI visited my junior school, observed us playing, and identified those with the most enthusiasm, grit, and potential in tennis.”

She elaborated on her journey, stating, “Over the years, I attended more and more tennis sessions, gradually becoming more passionate about the sport. Before I knew it, I was presented with incredible opportunities, including being part of the court services team, working at the championships, and, as you witnessed, meeting the princess.”
